With over 60,000 hotel rooms, New York City offers a diverse appeal , from inexpensive to very expensive. Occupancy rates are at all time highs. You must plan ahead to get the room at the location that you desire. There has been an increase in budget hotels and they do offer good value. Always check for package deals, seasonal rates and best price available. For something different, there are furnished apartments, studios, bed and breakfast homes, youth hostels and YMCAs. Other options include staying outside of Manhattan. Either in one of the other four boroughs or in New Jersey. Inter-borough transportation could not be better with New York's Subway System. Water taxis are available from New Jersey as well as some of the other boroughs. The rates are much less outside of Manhattan. Look for hotels that have a free continental breakfast. More and more NYC hotels are offering this option. Many NY hotels offer discount rates for the weekend, as business travelers usually leave on Friday. If you prefer quiet, try to reserve a room in the back of the hotel, away from the street and it's noise. There are hidden extras with NYC hotels-a 17.875% tax, plus a $2.00 per night room fee. Last, but not least, try not to book at the last minute-New York City hotels are booked well in advance.
